Battles begin at Kryal Castle

This Saturday (23rd November) will see medieval themed attraction Kryal Castle host its first ever mutli-period re-enactment event with a series of shows and displays recreating exciting historical events and battles from the 6th to the 14th century.

Located just outside Ballarat, Kryal Castle's grounds and fortress re-opened in March after a multi million dollar refurbishment and this weekend's event will see the attraction awash with colour and movement. The day is intended to be one of fun and learning for all with a range of events and activities including workshops, combat displays, archery, mounted displays, vehicles, interactive activities and opportunities to get up and close to a wide assortment of historical armour and weaponry.

The event was originally a Dark Age and Medieval Event, held at the Old Cheese Factory in Berwick, but its relocation to Kryal Castle, where it is supported by the Australian Re-enactment Association, places it in an exciting period setting.

Groups attending the event and their acts include:

• Actor Fight Training Australia, 11th Century Viking Battle Display
• New Varangian Guard, Victorian Branch - A Living history display, the group represents Hiberno a trading partner of Byzantium from 1,000 years ago
