First stage of new Broadbeach Cultural Precinct gets official opening

The first stage of a $14.8 million make-over to one of the Gold Coast’s most popular community spaces has been unveiled.

The Broadbeach Cultural Precinct now offers an upgraded auditorium, new dance studio, multipurpose hall and meeting room along with new audio-visual sound and lighting technology.

Formerly known as the Albert Waterways community centre, the project has revamped and extended one of the Gold Coast’s most visited recreational spaces with an additional 515 metre² of community space.

Unveiling the precinct yesterday, City of Gold Coast Mayor, Tom Tate stated “every great city needs great community facilities that allow people to gather both professionally and recreationally close to public transport (and this) Precinct is providing the community with those creative and social spaces that support a vibrant lifestyle.

“The Cultural Centre has opened right in time for the New Year and we can’t wait to see residents and visitors making the most of the improved spaces and facilities.”

The entire precinct has been redeveloped with a new look and the addition of a new café, new public amenities and more parking.

The refurbished Broadbeach Community Space within the precinct will also be officially opened in January.

Design and construction work has been completed by Paynters Pty Ltd and Peddle Thorpe Architects.
