Basketball Australia announces new Executive General Manager Commercial

Patrick Moloughney has been named as Basketball Australia’s new Executive General Manager Commercial commencing in the role on Monday 16th August.

With over twenty years’ experience in sponsorship and sport broadcasting across multiple mediums, Moloughney understands the importance of connecting brands and fans with relevance.

Basketball Australia Chief Executive, Matt Scriven notes “basketball is experiencing unprecedented growth in participation numbers and with the Boomers success at the Olympics medalling for the first time it’s the opportunity for us to expand our commercial partnerships.

“Basketball is an exciting prospect for partners, it’s an equal sport for men and women, it’s international, participation growth is strong and the fanbase for our national teams has never been higher. With viewership of the Boomers games topping two million per game in Tokyo all eyes are firmly on basketball.”

Moloughney comes to basketball with an incredible understanding of the sports industry and creating meaningful partnerships that deliver value. In his near fourteen years at Seven and Seven West Media working as the Network Director of Sport Sales and Sports Sales Manager, Moloughney worked on key sports including Olympics, Australian Open Tennis, AFL, NRL and Cricket.  Moloughney was responsible for leading the commercialisation of all sport programming.

Moloughney adds “I’m excited about the opportunities the sport of basketball represents with so many great assets including Aussie Hoops, 3x3 and the National Teams.  The growth of basketball across all demographics watching and playing provides an enormous opportunity for partners to join with us to reach this diverse audience.”

Moloughney has recently started a business called Second Half Sport and Entertainment and remains a Non-Executive Director of Ronald McDonald House Vic/Tas.
