Ballarat to plant hundreds of trees to create a greener image
Hundreds of trees will be planted in Ballarat over the next few months as the city tries to expand its green image.
The City of Ballarat and Victorian Government are spending $300,000 on the Greening Ballarat project which will coordinate the planting of 450 trees. The city's street drainage system will also be modified so stormwater can be captured and then used to assist in tree growth.
Victorian Environment Minister Lisa Neville said the plan was set to improve the city across the board.
Minister Neville stated “planting trees and changing the way the drainage system works here, providing real irrigation for these trees, will make a huge difference to the amenity of Ballarat, to the residents of Ballarat and also to this great main street of Ballarat in terms of business as well.”
The Greening Ballarat project is one of the first steps in delivering the shared 25 year vision for a greener, more vibrant and connected Ballarat.
