Baan Retires from Football
Football Federation Australia (FFA) National Technical Director, Robert Baan, has retired.
Baan has enjoyed a 44 year career in football, the last two of which he has spent in Australia setting up systems to improve the technical proficiency and skill levels of Australia's grassroots players and elite footballers.
Speaking of Baan's retirement, FFA Chief Executive Ben Buckley stated "Rob has had a critical role in improving our football development programs after a lack of investment in this area over many years," adding that "Rob has been instrumental in setting us on the right path, particularly through the introduction of small sided football, an elite coach development program and a national coaching curriculum."
Baan previously held senior technical positions with Feyenoord, the Dutch Football Association (KNVB) and the UAE Football Association. He has guided the careers of some of the biggest names in world football including Marco Van Basten, Johan Neeskens, Ronald de Boer and Ronaldo.
FFA announced Han Berger as Baan's successor earlier this month. Berger will take up his new role in January.
