Awards showcase contributions to Queensland's outdoor recreation sector
The Queensland Outdoor Recreation Federation (QORF) has announced the winners of the 2011 Queensland Outdoor Recreation Awards.
QORF established the Awards in 2001 to recognise and reward excellence in outdoor recreation and celebrate individuals and organisations that have made a significant contribution to the outdoor recreation sector.
Following deliberations over 39 high quality nominations across eight categories, the winners were announced an awards dinner in Brisbane last Friday (28th October),
The winners for 2011 are:
• The Queensland Government Outstanding Achievement (Individual) Award - Kate Harrison, Senior Program Officer, Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme
• The Brisbane City Council Outstanding Achievement (Organisation) Award - Orienteering Queensland
• The K2 Basecamp Encouragement Award - Harley Miles, 16 year old Outdoor Recreation Trainee, Laidley
• The Queensland Government Encouraging Participation in Outdoor Recreation Award Joint Winners - DETOUR Youth Program (Parkour), UnitingCare Community Townsville & Wild Earth Adventures for the Homeless, Mission Australia's Roma House
• The Queensland Government Department of Infrastructure and Planning Environmental Award - Adventure Alternatives Outdoor Education Centre, Woodford
• The Queensland Government Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service Excellence in Outdoor Instruction and Education Award - Meebunn-bia Outdoor Education Centre, Rathdowney
• The Queensland Outdoor Recreation Federation Government Achievement Award - South East Queensland Outdoor Recreation Strategy, Department of Local Government & Planning
• The Brisbane City Council Outdoor Event Award - Oxfam Australia, Oxfam Trailwalker Brisbane
