TNQT shows sense of adventure in new course delivery
Tropical North Queensland TAFE (TNQT) is to pilot an exciting new approach to the delivery of outdoor leadership programs including the Certificate III and IV in Outdoor Recreation.
Working in partnership with peak industry body the Queensland Outdoor Recreation Federation (QORF), TNQT will deliver an innovative approach to training including residential training and assessment blocks combined with workplace experience.
The revamped certificates in Outdoor Recreation were announced by QORF Chief Executive Donna Little when she visited Cairns on 16th March to deliver a training update for industry members.
Little said that Queensland Outdoor Recreation Federation was looking forward to building stronger ties with TNQT, stating "QORF and the outdoor sector welcome the opportunity to work closely with TNQT and know that the institute and staff provide strong foundation skills to their students.
"Over the years TNQT trained graduates in Outdoor Recreation have been welcomed into the sector and we believe this will continue into the future. The new training programs allow participants to work and learn at the same time, developing their skills and knowledge consecutively."
TNQT Outdoor Leadership Trainer Phil Harrison said that these courses are designed for people passionate about the outdoors and perfect for those looking to get into the industry or up skill, adding "if you love the outdoors, become an Outdoor Leader! These certificates meet current industry standards and qualify you to work in a number of exciting jobs from traditional outdoor recreation education programs to adventure tourism operators.
"Take this opportunity to improve your skills and career prospects or advance into a managerial role if you are already working in the industry."
Institute Director Joann Pyne remarked on the necessity of such an interactive course designed to enhance tourists' experiences when visiting the Far North.
Pyne explained "with a large part of our community dependent on tourism, TNQT's contribution is to ensure employees are able to provide a consistently high level of leadership and superior customer service.
"TAFE prides itself on providing advanced training options to ensure people are workplace ready and successful in their chosen career."
Certificate III and IV in Outdoor Recreation courses will begin in May, 2011.
