Australian sport acknowledges 40 years of service from Perry Crosswhite

Australian Sports Commission Chair (ASC) John Wylie AM has congratulated respected administrator Perry Crosswhite AM for more than 40 years of distinguished service to Australian sport.

67-year-old Crosswhite is set to retire as Chief Executive of the Australian Commonwealth Games Association (ACGA) after 17 years in the job - one of the many leadership roles he has held in a long and illustrious career in Australian sport.

Wylie explained "when a young American basketballer arrived in Melbourne in 1969, little did Australia know then that it was welcoming a man who would enjoy a stellar career, not only in the sporting arena but as a sports administrator for more than 40 years."

Crosswhite represented Australia in basketball in more than 300 international matches and at three Olympic Games, captaining the team at the 1976 and 1980 Olympics.

As an administrator, his record includes helping win the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games for Australia, helping secure the 2006 Commonwealth Games for Melbourne and the 2018 Commonwealth Games at the Gold Coast. He organised Australian teams for three Olympic Games - summer and winter – as well as five Commonwealth Games.

Crosswhite was named Australian Sports Administrator of the Year in 1998, received an Australian Sports Medal in 2000, was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame as an administrator in 2003 and was recognised in 2007 with a Member of the Order of Australia for his service to sport.

Wylie added "Australian sport is indebted to Perry Crosswhite for the unwavering commitment, perseverance, leadership and direction he has provided.”

Wylie also welcomed ACGA Chief Executive Craig Phillips, who begins the role today (Monday 27th July), stating "his wealth of experience as Secretary General of the Australian Olympic Committee will provide an excellent platform for success in this new role."
