Australian Netball secures historic Australian broadcast deal
The ANZ Championship, in conjunction with FOX SPORTS and SBS, has confirmed the most comprehensive broadcast deal in Australian netball history with every game of the ANZ Championship to be broadcast live.
The multi-platform deal will see all 69 ANZ Championship games, including finals, broadcast live on FOX SPORTS while SBS 2 will air live Sunday afternoon's Match of the Round from midday simultaneously with FOX SPORTS. SBS also has rights to finals matches on its free-to-air television network.
ANZ Championship General Manager Andy Crook explained "we're thrilled the new broadcast deal will provide Australians with the ability to watch every game of the ANZ Championship live through subscription and free-to-air platforms.
"The latest announcement supports our ambition of setting the benchmark for female sports leagues, not just in Australasia, but around the world as we continue to engage with our current fans and inspire a new generation."
With the announcement of the new broadcast deal in Australia, every game of the 2013 ANZ Championship will now be broadcast live on either side of the Tasman Sea via existing partner SKY Network in New Zealand.
FOX SPORTS Chief Executive Patrick Delany added "it's a historic day for netball in Australia with FOX SPORTS, in partnership with Foxtel, delivering fans the depth and quality of coverage they've always wanted.
"Never before have fans been able to watch every ANZ Championship game live until now with FOX SPORTS broadcasting all 69 games, plus the finals series, live and in high definition."
"FOX SPORTS will ensure netball fans have access to the best competition at home and abroad with live coverage extending to all Test matches featuring the Diamonds played on home soil and across the Tasman."
SBS Managing Director Michael Ebeid also stated "this exciting new partnership demonstrates a commitment by SBS to supporting women's sports in Australia and helping to grow the sports which connect our diverse communities.
"Netball is the leading women's sport in the country and we are proud that now all Australians will be able to watch our elite netballers both in the ANZ Championship and in the Diamonds test matches on free-to-air television.
"Netball will also become a cornerstone of our sports offering on our new SBS 2 ... as a bold, provocative channel for younger audiences who want to engage with the sports they love."
Netball's broadcast deal includes international Tests, with SBS and FOX SPORTS to broadcast Australian Diamonds' matches.
