Australian Golf Course Superintendents' Association names new Chief Executive
The Board of the Australian Golf Course Superintendents' Association (AGCSA) has announced that Mark Unwin has been appointed as the association’s new Chief Executive.
Unwin, who will start his new role on Monday 25th September, comes with an extensive background in senior management positions with Yellow Pages publisher Sensis Pty Ltd and having most recently been General Manager of the Blitz Publications & Multimedia Group.
In a statement on the appointment, the AGCSA Board advised “applicants consisted of people from outside the industry from varying backgrounds, with all having held senior management positions.
“It was an exceptionally difficult final decision, with the final interviewees impressing the panel with their varied expertise. However, it was Mark’s passion for the position and positive ideas on moving the AGCSA forward on behalf of the Board and membership that came to the fore.
“The AGCSA Board feels that Mark possesses all the attributes required of a chief executive who will be able to stabilise and strengthen our core business, while also being able to develop strategies that will enable our association to grow going forward.”
Melbourne-based WellPlayed Golf Business Consultancy was engaged by the AGCSA Board to assist in the procurement process with applicants assessed against key criteria, from which an initial shortlist of 13 were deemed as possible candidates.
Those short-listed were contacted by WellPlayed and after consultation with the Board a final six were chosen for initial interviews. With two of these candidates withdrawing their applications immediately prior to the interview process, after the initial interviews, a final two were chosen for a second interview where they were asked to make a presentation on specific questions asked of them and also include their thoughts on the association.
All interviews were conducted at the offices of the AGCSA, with the first round panel consisting of AGCSA President Brett Balloch, Directors Peter Lonergan and Chris Burgess and Guy Chapple from WellPlayed Golf Business Consultancy. The second round of interviews saw AGCSA Director Steve Lewis also present.
