AUSactive urges member gyms to engage with Tasmanian Government’s Veteran Wellbeing Voucher Program

In the wake of the Tasmanian Government’s recent launch of its Veteran Wellbeing Voucher Program, AUSactive is urging its members in the state to register their facilities, while also steering gyms in other states to engage with similar programs

Tasmania’s recent Veterans Voucher Program offers eligible veterans the chance to apply for a voucher of up to $100 to put towards the cost of registration or membership fees at participating gyms and sporting clubs.

Explaining that this is a “fantastic initiative” that shows the important link between keeping active and an individual’s overall wellbeing, AUSactive Chief Executive, Barrie Elvish stated “AUSactive applauds the Tasmanian Government for introducing the Veteran Wellbeing Voucher Program. The program not only encourages the more than 10,500 Tasmanian veterans to get active and make social connections through a gym or sporting club but also provides an opportunity for fitness facilities to expand their membership and client base.

“I encourage all our Tasmanian members to register to become an Activity Provider to ensure they can be part of this positive initiative. The program is free to join and there are no ongoing costs.

“Gyms and other facilities who meet the requirements will be reimbursed for each voucher they accept. The program is open to gyms and clubs throughout Tasmania.”

With eligible veterans able to apply for their vouchers later this month, the Tasmanian Government is currently calling on gyms and sporting clubs to register as an Activity Provider.

According to the Tasmanian Government active participation in health and wellbeing programs supports its goal to make Tasmania the healthiest population in Australia by 2025.

Participation in physical activity and wellbeing programs is also a factor in addressing veteran and defence suicide in Australia.
