Amenities replacement now complete at John Houston Memorial Swimming Pool in Hay
The replacement of the amenities building is now complete at the John Houston Memorial Swimming Pool in Hay, located in the western Riverina region of south western New South Wales.
The new building will provide modern amenities with dedicated areas, including:
private change rooms
swimming club area
canteen
kitchen
medical room
an office
The replacement was made possible with over $712,000 in funding from the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program.
It is part of $2.7 million committed to Hay Shire Council under LRCI – which is supporting a range of projects that create local job opportunities and have long-lasting benefits in this region.
The Government has committed $3.25 billion to the LRCI Program over four phases, with every local government in all 150 electorates across Australia supported through this funding.
Minister for Regional Development, Local Government and Territories, Kristy McBain notes “as we enter peak swimming season, there is nothing more important than having high-quality facilities at local swimming pools – which really are the heart of our regional communities.
“Our $712,000 investment in this fantastic new amenities building is just one of more than 10,500 projects currently funded under LRCI across the country.
“This number will only grow – as projects under Phase 4 of LRCI, now worth $750 million thanks to $250 million in additional funding from the Albanese Labor Government, continue to be locked in.”
Mayor of Hay Shire Council, Carol Oataway shared “the replacement of the amenities building at the John Houston Memorial Swimming Pool was long overdue – which is why we are so excited to open this modern new space.
“Whether it’s swimming lessons, birthday parties, or getting some relief from the heat – the Hay community will flock to the pool like never before.
“I thank the council staff and contractors for delivering this $1.7 million project, and look forward to progressing more high-impact, local-led projects in collaboration with the Albanese Government.”
Lifeguarding Services Australia has also advertised via social media that they are hiring Pool Lifeguards and Learn to Swim Teachers for the John Houston Memorial Swimming Pool.
