Active Moreland recognised with three Platinum Pool Awards from Life Saving Victoria

Active Moreland’s three aquatic centres - Brunswick Baths, the Coburg Leisure Centre and the Oak Park Sports and Aquatic Centre - have joined an exclusive club of almost 40 aquatic facilities across Victoria that currently hold a Platinum Pool status accreditation following receipt of 100% on its recent Pool Safety Assessment conducted by Life Saving Victoria.

With Platinum Pool status awarded to aquatic facilities providing outstanding levels of safety, the three facilities had to undertake a rigorous series of assessments to ensure they met all of Life Saving Victoria (LSV)'s criteria for the accreditation.

Advising that the award is a way of recognising those facilities that have attained the highest level of safety requirements and standards, LSV General Manager - Public Training and Pool Safety, Andy Dennis commented "the award is similar to accrediting a lifesaver, and therefore facilities must undergo a thorough assessment of their skills and performance and attain a high standard throughout.

"We are very selective when awarding Platinum Pool accreditation. LSV must be satisfied that exemplary levels of aquatic safety are being achieved and constantly maintained before the award is issued.”

Included in the award are an industry leading Pool Safety Assessment, a six-monthly assessment on implementation, Mystery Guest Visits and adherence to the best practice 'Watch Around Water' child supervision program.

Facilities that have qualified for the Platinum Pool award are certified and provided with internal materials within the facility. The accreditation is valid for twelve months and forms an important component of the overall safety planning and continual improvement strategy.

After a tumultuous year and a half of COVID-19 related restrictions and closures, receiving the LSV Platinum Pool Award has been welcome news to the team at Active Moreland.

Stating that having the Platinum Pool status awarded to three of the aquatic facilities shows the hard work and dedication of the entire team, Nadine Kemp, Area Manager for facility manager YMCA Victoria added “with the continued investment from Moreland council into their assets, the back of house support from the Y, we at Active Moreland are proud to have three of our pools successfully awarded platinum pools. It displays how passionate the entire team at Active Moreland are about pool safety.

“We’re very proud that Brunswick Baths, Coburg Leisure Centre and Oak Park Sports and Aquatic Centre have been recognised as premium facilities in Victoria, and we will continue to focus on exceeding safety and industry compliance standards.”
