24 hour challenge raises $465,000 for children in 24 care
More than 30 TRUE treadmills and Schwinn spin bikes were in continuous motion for 24 hours on the weekend of 23rd and 24th May at Very Special Kids (VSK) in Malvern to raise over $465,000 for children in 24 hour care.
All funds raised at the VSK 24 Hour Treadmill Challenge go to Very Special Kids House, Victoria’s only children’s hospice that provides specialist care for children with life-threatening conditions.
In a battle of camaraderie and personal endurance, teams of up to 48 members ran on a treadmill or rode on a spin bike. The 1,200 participants were motivated and entertained by Channel Seven and Smooth fm personalities, DJ's and massage teams.
The event was well supported by over 30 corporates including ALH, Guild Insurance, Ernst & Young, CBA, Toyota, Essendon Football Club, City of Stonnington, JB Were, QBE and Federal Member for Higgins Kelly O’Dwyer and former Federal Treasurer Peter Costello.
Very Special Kids offer free-of-charge family support services including counselling, advocacy, sibling support, bereavement support, networking, trained family volunteers and specialist care for the families of children with life-threatening conditions at Very Special Kids House.
The 24 Hour Treadmill Challenge was supported by Genesis Fitness and The Fitness Generation, who generously provided brand new TRUE treadmills and Schwinn spin bikes.
