2021 Sydney Royal Easter Show to proceed under COVIDSafe rules

Having not been held in 2020, the Sydney Royal Easter Show will go ahead this year, but with COVID-19 restrictions in place that will limit visitor numbers.

The popular annual event, often described as the largest yearly event in the Southern Hemisphere, will have an app with a traffic light system to monitor the number of people at events and exhibits, and public transport will no longer be free with a ticket.

Speaking to Nine News, Royal Agriculture Society of NSW Chief Executive, Brock Gilmour stated “you can feel safe when you come to the grounds ... all the attractions will be there, all the animals, all the showbags.

"We've also invested in some software, that software will scan people in and out of pavilions.”

Scheduled to run from 1st to 12th April, tickets for this year’s Easter Show are now on sale. However, unlike in previous years showgoers must specify which day they want to attend,

On site at the Sydney Showground, there will be increased cleaning, hand sanitisation stations, COVID marshalls and socially distanced queues.

Daily attendance caps will be set by NSW Health about three weeks out from the Show.

With each of Australia’s Royal Shows cancelled last year, the return of the first capital city-based agricultural show will be a major boost for the sector which has been impacted by significantly reduced operations over the past year.

The Sydney Showground has also announced that it will be hosting Expertise Event’s longest-running consumer exhibition, the Craft & Quilt Fair as of late June.

The event will take over the Sydney Showground Halls from 30th June to 4th July.
