2020 Australian Regional Tourism Convention to be staged in Ballarat

Australian Regional Tourism has announced that it is to partner with the City of Ballarat to host the 2020 Australian Regional Tourism (ART) Convention.

In a highly competitive environment to attract the Convention, this announcement follows a successful pitch by the City of Ballarat’s Events team and presents an exciting opportunity to highlight the valuable work being delivered in the tourism sector by the City of Ballarat and the growing number of local entrepreneurial operators.

Advising that the event will showcase Ballarat as a tourist and conference destination, Ballarat Mayor, Ben Taylor stated "recently crowned a UNESCO Creative City, Ballarat is a leading example of how local government, business, artisans and tourism bodies are collaborating to leverage existing and emerging visitor trends."

The ART Convention is an important event for local councils, regional tourism organisations, tourism professionals and businesses, and government personnel wanting to contribute to the future of regional tourism in Australia.

ART Chair, Coralie Bell "we are very excited to be working with City of Ballarat for the coming year to deliver the 2020 Australian Regional Tourism Convention in Ballarat.

"The City of Ballarat is currently undergoing a period of significant change in their approach to engaging and supporting their local visitor economy, this combined with the regional city's rapid growth sets an ideal scene for a vibrant and stimulating convention."

Regarded as the most significant annual event for anyone engaged in regional tourism, the convention provides delegates the opportunity to connect, share ideas and engage in robust discussions around opportunities and challenges being faced by the industry.

The theme of the Convention, being held from 26th to 28th October 2020, is ‘building resilient and adaptive communities that thrive’. Nigel Collin has also been announced as the Convention facilitator.

Early-bird registrations will open online in March.
