Young volleyballers make the most of Melbourne

The largest school-based sports competition in the Southern Hemisphere began yesterday (Sunday 8th December) at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre with Victorian Minister for Sport and Recreation Hugh Delahunty officially opening the 30th Australian Volleyball Schools Cup.

At the opening ceremony, Minister Delahunty officially welcomed over 5,000 students from the top ranked secondary school teams from across Australia and New Zealand.

The teams will compete at three venues: Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre in Albert Park; State Volleyball Centre in Dandenong; and the State Netball & Hockey Centre in Parkville.

Events like the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup provide the perfect opportunity for future top players, coaches and officials to shine and launch their sporting careers.

The Cup is also a great way for young people to build new friendships, strengthen bonds, and get inspired to take their sport to the next level.

Minister Delahunty congratulated Volleyball Australia for staging the week long event and securing the funding, adding "events like these also provide a boost for school sports participation and grassroots sports like volleyball.

"By supporting a wide range of events we can hopefully discover a new crop of future champions."
