Melbourne Sports Hub launches Kids Club

The Melbourne Sports Hub has launched a Kids Club Membership program for children aged five to 12 years. Developed in line with the Melbourne Sports Hub's philosophy of Developing Champions in Life, The Kids Club aims to offer a fun, safe and active multi-sports program for children, focusing on participation and skill development, progression pathways and providing access to world-class facilities.

The Kids Club membership extends across the Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre (MSAC) and Lakeside Stadium in Albert Park along with the State Netball Hockey Centre in Parkville. At MSAC alone, almost 100,000 children participate in structured programs on an annual basis; the majority of the children coming from the local community.

Operating throughout the school terms of 2013, the Kids Club Sports Program will include racquet sports, athletics, ball sports and FlowRider. The Sports Program will be complimented by quarterly Kids Club events and a calendar of activities, promotions and give-aways for members.

Victorian State Sport Centres Trust Chair Bruce Mildenhall and Chief Executive Simon Weatherill yesterday (Monday 22nd October) launched The Kids Club by presenting foundation Memberships to Grade 3 and 4 students from Port Melbourne Primary School at MSAC.

Port Melbourne Primary School has a long association with MSAC, also participating in MSAC Swim School intensive swim lessons and water safety annually.

Mildenhall explains that the initiative is a great way for the Melbourne Sports Hub to encourage and reward children for being active and living healthy lifestyles, stating "we've got thousands of kids coming through our facilities each day and Kids Club provides an avenue for us to communicate with them directly and to develop them through sport, recreation and education.

"We're working to achieve the State Government's initiative of more kids more active, more often."
