Blacktown facilities join Live Life Get Active campaign

Blacktown City Council's aquatic and recreation centres are the latest centres to join with the Live Life Get Active campaign.

Former Olympian Jane Flemming recently launched Blacktown's participation in the campaign with a free boot camp program at the Emerton Leisure Centre in western Sydney.

Live Life Get Active is a social Initiative that looks to build a fitter, healthier and happier. Launched in Sydney, the program already works with Gosford City Council, Liverpool City Council, Sutherland Shire Council, Warringah Shire Council, the Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust.

Launching the Emerton Leisure Centre program (pictured below), Flemming explained that residents in western Sydney faced many issues relating to unhealthy habits, stating “a lot of people out here spend their life commuting … then come home and you’re so tired, so we then eat convenience foods.”

Commenting on the program, Flemming added “we’re trying to remove all the barriers to a healthier life so cost is one and all our camps are free.

“They’re all conducted by qualified and insured personal trainers.”

Boot camps at the Emerton Leisure Centre as well as nearby Dawson Mall run five days a week all year round, with a break for school holidays.

The classes run for 45 minutes and include boxing, cross-fit and yoga classes for all levels of ability throughout the week.

Participants will need to register online for the classes after which they receive a tailored nutrition plan.
