Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi part of global swimming lesson world record
Abu Dhabi's Yas Waterworld has numbered among over 400 aquatic facilities around the world that contributed to the World's Largest Swimming Lesson's attainment of a new Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous swimming lesson.
Held in June, the World's Largest Swimming Lesson featured 32,450 participants hosted by 432 facilities in 13 countries - a 30% increase over the 2012 record of 24,873 participants.
With 777 swimmers, Yas Waterworld achieved the highest number of swimmers at a single facility, an achievement welcomed by Yas Waterworld General Manager Mike Oswald who explained "Yas Waterworld is a place for firsts.
"In developing the waterpark, our vision was to create a dynamic family-friendly entertainment venue that is as exciting as it is inclusive. Breaking the Guinness World Record for the World's Largest Swimming Lesson is testament to how that vision has been, and will continue to be realised," said
The simultaneous global event, which aims to help raise awareness of the importance of teaching children to swim and reduce drownings (the world's second leading cause of accidental death among children aged one to 14), is hosted by community aquatic facilities and waterparks across 14 countries on five continents.
In 2014, the World's Largest Swimming Lesson will be held on Friday 20th June.
