World Academy of Sport announces new international Sports Education Award

The World Academy of Sport (WAoS) has announced that it is launching an International Award for Excellence in Sports Education in order to highlight distinction at a grassroots or high performance level in an industry education programme.  

Launched at the recent at SportAccord 2019 event on the Gold Coast, the Award will be presented to the candidate that best fulfils the criteria determined for Excellence in Sports Education in the global sports sector.

The winner of the award will need to demonstrate that they have met the following criteria:

• Held responsibility for addressing or contributing to an educational need which meets the aims of their organisation. Examples include sustainability, legacy, participation, etc.
• Achieved a tangible output which has added value to their organisation (such as developing a training programme or observers’ programme etc). 
• Completed the above in the last five years. 

WAoS is inviting nominations for individuals who fulfil the criteria listed above by a deadline of 30th May 2019.

These individuals (if deemed to meet the criteria) will then be invited to complete a short questionnaire by 30th June, with a shortlist of five candidates announced to the industry by 31st July 2019.

After that, the final five candidates will be requested to participate in a more detailed submission process that will be judged by a panel of industry and education experts.

The ultimate winner of the inaugural award will be announced at the Manchester Sports Awards in October 2019, hosted by Manchester City Council.
