Workshop to aid adventure tourism operators safety procedures
As the peak summer season draws to a close, the Tourism Industry Association New Zealand (TIANZ) is highlighting that it’s a good time for adventure and outdoor tourism operators to review their safety management systems.
A TIANZ statement explains “the winter months will offer many operators time to review how they can make improvements for next summer and work with their teams to embed a culture of safety across the business.
“(In addition) those operators offering winter activities still have time to ensure they are doing all they can to keep their clients safe.”
Accordingly, TIANZ is offering a series of free, half-day workshops around New Zealand through March and April that will focus on safety systems for adventure and outdoor tourism operators.
The workshops will be useful to all operators working in the adventure and outdoor sector, not only those covered by the Adventure Activities Regulations.
Attendees will find out about:
• New safety initiatives and sector developments
• Effective review and improvement strategies for hazard management, incidents, staffing, emergencies and equipment
• How to make the most of Activity Safety Guidelines and other sources of good practice
• Ideas to improve their safety systems
• Tips and lessons from other operators’ experiences
