Works underway on first aquatic play area for Charters Towers

Play equipment has arrived and work is underway on the first aquatic play space for the Charters Towers Region – a Queensland rural area situated 136 kilometres southwest of Townsville. The playground equipment will be part of the zero-depth interactive water play park, featuring multiple slides, a bucket and tunnel.

Charters Towers Regional Council Mayor Frank Beveridge is excited to see this project come together with the arrival of the playground equipment signifying a key milestone moment for Council’s construction.

Mayor Beveridge notes “Council and I are eager to see the finished project now that the playground equipment has arrived onsite.

“The playground is just one piece of the exciting Water Park project.”

The Charters Towers Water Park project includes the construction of the site works, amenities, plantroom, filtration plant, shade sails, civil works, landscaping, and chemical truck delivery bund.

The project is on track and is expected to be completed mid-year.

The initial project completion date was moved to allow for the removal of contaminated soil after low-level heavy metals were found in the soil.

“Now that the contaminated soil has been removed, we will be able to keep moving forward with the project,” says Mayor Beveridge.

Once complete, entry to the Charters Towers Water Park will be free, which makes a great attraction for children after school and during school holidays with Mayor Beveridge adding “the water park is a great addition to the Region, and we know it will be very popular with both  locals and tourists.

The Water Park, which has been identified as one of ten priority projects by Council for 2020-24, will increase the liveability of the Region and will “nurture a culture of community growth, health, and well-being in Charters Towers,” says Mayor Beveridge.
