Work underway on Bold Park Aquatic Centre’s $12.25 million upgrade

The Town of Cambridge’s Bold Park Aquatic Centre has closed for a major redevelopment.

Set to open in October next year, the $12.25 million was brought about by the facility’s original pool having reached the end of its maintainable life.

As a result, the Centre will be redeveloped with the following features:

Main pool - a new 10 lane, 50 metre heated pool ranging in depth from 1.1 metres at the shallow end, increasing to 1.8 metre at the deep end. This pool will replace the existing 50 metre, eight lane pool.

Leisure pool /Learn to Swim - this new pool area to replace the existing wading pool, is for leisure users and teaching programs, and will comprise a four lane, 20 metre heated pool ranging in depth from 0.8 metres to 1.1 metres. The pool will be heated to slightly warmer than the main pool and will incorporate a separate toddler ‘learn to swim’ and play area, with beach style entry.

This area will be covered and have sliding walls on the south and west faces that can be closed during inclement conditions to provide a much needed wind break, and allow users to enjoy the pool all year round.

Pool side landscaping - a complete revamp of the pool side areas to include a new paved concourse around the main pool, a picnic area with barbecues, refurbishment of the existing tiered seating and improved landscaping with additional trees and shrubs throughout the complex.

Main building - a new building to house the pool entry, administration, crèche, swim shop, and kiosk accessible from the pool and car park. New change rooms will also be contained within the main building which, together with male, female and accessible facilities, will include new family size change rooms for parents with small children.

Parking - a revised car park layout to increase capacity from the current 113 car bays to 150 bays.

Building works, which began in September, are being undertaken by Doric Constructions.

Commenting on the redevelopment, Town of Cambridge Mayor Simon Withers stated that the upgraded Centre “will be a huge improvement for swimmers and it will also cater for families and visitors who just want to enjoy the bushland setting.”

The Centre is located in the Perth suburb of Floreat.
