SEC named national 'Venue Caterer of the Year'

The Sydney Entertainment Centre (SEC) has this week won the 2012 Savour Australia Restaurant and Catering HOSTPLUS 'Venue Caterer of the Year Award'.

The National Restaurant and Catering Awards for Excellence, specifically designed to objectively recognise and promote industry best practice, were held at a ceremony at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The 'Venue Caterer of the Year Award', which included the best of both metropolitan and regional venue caterers from all Australian states and territories, is one of the most authoritative industry catering awards in the country.

On accepting the award, the SEC's General Manager, Steve Romer stated "as always, the National Restaurant and Catering Awards are a fabulous event and this year was made even more so by our win at the national venue caterer level - we are so proud to be acknowledged and crowned the national champion of venue hospitality."

The awards are judged on many different levels, including innovation, creativity and culinary excellence, as well as ambience of the function space, beverage service, and competency levels of service staff.

SEC Food and Beverage Manager, Dave Watts added "I am delighted for the SEC to be recognised by the peak industry body, and on behalf of our dedicated venue catering team I know the award will inspire us to continue raising the bar with our unique and creative culinary experience for our venue patrons."

In both 2011 and 2012, the SEC was the State (NSW) Winner of 'Venue Caterer of the Year', and in 2011 the venue was also a State Finalist in the 'Caterer at an Event' category.

Receiving the 2012 'National Venue Caterer of the Year Award' continues the SEC's list of achievements this year, including being the first international venue outside of North America to win the '2012 Venue Excellence Award (Arenas)' by the International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM).
