Women's fitness needs and opportunities to be explored at fourth annual Summit
Offering the opportunity for fitness club operators and managers to attain better results from their female clients and to connect with like-minded allied health professionals, the fourth edition of the Women’s Health and Fitness Summit (WHFS) is being held in Melbourne on 28th and 29th October.
What is now an annual gathering for all those interested in woman’s health, fitness and nutrition, the event brings together leaders in fitness, exercise physiology, physiotherapy and allied health professionals who will share how they holistically care for their clients, themselves and their business.
Born in 2014 from a vision by Michelle Wright, the Chief Executive and founder of mishfit, the Summit was born out of a desire to provide a supportive and engaging environment to explore what women’s health and fitness means, and how it can better benefit all those involved, in whatever role.
Wright feels that the fitness industry needs to change how it interacts with women, commenting “as most fitness professionals are men and statistically, most fitness industry clients are women ... all fitness professionals should attend the Summit ... including our male trainers.”
Explaining that different information needs to be given to fitness professionals about the different training needs for women, Wright adds “women not only have a monthly hormone cycle that impacts of muscle function, but also larger hormonal fluctuations of pregnancy, postnatal and menopause.
“63% of a fitness professional’s average client base are females, yet few trainers and instructors are truly catering to their needs, instead opting to prescribe them a ‘standard’ program that was probably historically designed for men.
“When you overlay the large number of women experiencing incontinence and prolapse, then you can be sure that many, many women are either suffering in silence or finding it all too hard and become inactive.”
Being held at Melbourne’s Grand Hyatt, this year’s Summit is presenting an opportunity for four new presenters to address not only WHFS but to also start in the industry as conference presented on women’s wellness issues.
Following an application process that ended earlier this year, the presenters have been mentored and trained to develop their presenting skills, with the successful speakers ready to share their passion and knowledge at the Summit.
