With new Steel Taipan rollercoaster approaching completion Dreamworld retires its BuzzSaw ride
The transformation of Gold Coast theme park Dreamworld is continuing with the track on its new Steel Taipan rollercoaster completed and elements of its theming taking shape.
With attention now turning to the installation and commissioning of Steel Taipan’s ride systems, Dreamworld is focussed on having the thrill ride complete and operational for the summer season.
Work will also include landscaping and theming with testing expected to commence in the near future.
Elsewhere in the theme park the demolition of Tower of Terror II is ongoing, with the launch track and tunnel finally gone 18 months after the ride closed while the removal of the former Rocky Hollow Log Ride is now complete.
In a surprise recent announcement, Dreamworld revealed the pending of closure of the BuzzSaw ride after just 10 years of operation.
Set to reduce Dreamworld’s once-prized ‘Big Nine’ thrill rides down to six, a statement on the theme park’s website said BuzzSaw would be retired as of 31st August to make room for the park’s next thrilling addition.
The statement read “since announcing plans for the park’s $32 million investment in the Steel Taipan rollercoaster, Dreamworld has planned to cease operations of BuzzSaw, given the new ride’s proximity and the park’s focus on viable future development.
“Guests are invited to take part in their last ride of BuzzSaw before 31st August 2021.”
A Maurer AG SkyLoop ride, BuzzSaw was launched as the tallest inversion ride in the Southern Hemisphere.
However, a review on the Parkz theme park enthusiasts website noted “the ride was reasonably well themed, but the general consensus was that it was an uncomfortable … and somewhat short ride, saved only by the initial gimmick of the inverted vertical lift.
In addition to the removal of the Tower of Terror II and Rocky Hollow Log Ride, Dreamworld has also closed Wipeout and the ill-fated Thunder River Rapids ride.
