William Angliss Institute expands specialist course to meet tourism industry needs

William Angliss Institute of TAFE is extending its portfolio of specialist education courses in order to meet the needs of the growing tourism sector.

Explaining how tourism sector growth underpinning the need for more higher learning opportunities, William Angliss Institute Tourism lecturer Paul Taylor said in 2014 there were 4.2 million international nature-based visitors to Australia, an increase of 4% per annum since 2010. International nature-based visitors represent 66%t of all international visitors, a proportion that has been increasing since 2011 based on Tourism Research Australia.

Taylor explained “with the growth of nature-based experiences, understanding nature landscapes and wildlife and how you interpret that experience for visitors is very important.

“This speciality degree will help students with this interpretation to enhance visitor experience and helping create memorable experiences.”

According to the Deloitte Tourism and Market outlook, with strong growth in both international and domestic visitor numbers to Australia has meant that tourism continues to be one of the fastest growing sectors in the Australian economy.

Taylor adds “keeping this in mind we have also developed a Bachelor of Tourism (Marketing) for students who want to pursue a future career in marketing in the tourism industries, as these will see continue to see growth.”
