MySpace and Apple Enter Ticketing and Events Markets

News Limited has launched MySpace Events, a calendar and ticketing platform that allows artists and fans to create and share events while Apple is ready to enter the electronic concert and event ticket business with an iPhone application called 'Concert Ticket +'.
Facing the challenge of maintaining the relevance of MySpace in the increasingly competitive social networking market, owners News Limited have launched âMySpace Eventsâ, a calendar and ticketing platform that allows artists and fans to create and share events. Each event appears inside the userâs MySpace calendar, including any from Facebook thanks to a growing implementation of Facebook Connect; and they can be shared on their MySpace Stream, Facebook pages, on Twitter, and via tiny url.
Significant aspects of âMySpace Eventsâ are that it is based on opening doors to other sites and networks and that it allows linking to third party ticketing.
Meanwhile Apple has made a patent submission for âConcert Ticket +â, an electronic concert and event ticket system that would give customers the opportunity to purchase tickets for events, sport and theme parks over iTunes.
The patent submission proposes abandoning hard or paper tickets with tickets being delivered electronically. It also allows for wireless delivery and interaction via NFC and RFID (removing the need for scanning or turnstiles).
Future opportunities for âConcert Ticket +â are seen as being limitless with the application having the potential to deliver wedding, special and private invitations; tickets for school events and a long list of services such as discounts on music when concert tickets are purchased through the service; and pre-payment for event catering and merchandise.
