Western Australian Government moves forward with State Football Centre plans

The Western Australian Government’s plans for its multi-million-dollar State Football Centre has reached a stage where key facility and landscape design objectives are progressing with a development application submitted for determination by the Western Australian Planning Commission.

Jointly funded by the Federal and Western Australian Governments, the $32.5 million ‘centre of excellence’, the facility will contain two football pitches for high-performance, junior and community football programs, with the capacity to host training camps for national and international teams.

Located at Queens Park, in Perth's south-east, it will also include permanent seating for up to 700 people, with extra seating available for up to 4,000 spectators.

The sport’s Western Australian governing body Football West will move to the new facility once complete as of 2023, while Perth Glory's training and administration may also find a new home there.

Speaking about the potential of the facility earlier this year, Western Australian Premier Mark McGowan said the Centre could be used as a training base for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, commenting "this will be an opportunity for a training facility and potentially a place for our Australian team to be based when they're here in Perth," Mr McGowan said.

The masterplan for the redevelopment of the area to be designed with input from the City of Canning.

The development application assessment is available for feedback until 27th January 2021
