West Coast Eagles lets fans inspect their new training facility
With the West Coast Eagles having largely completed their relocation to their new $50 million training and administration facility at Perth's Lathlain Park, the reigning AFL Premiers have today opened the facility to fans.
Hundreds of fans took the opportunity to get their first look at the new facility following the Eagles' move from Subiaco Oval after 29 years.
From their humble beginnings in the 1908s, training on public ovals without even a change-room, the new facility consists of two training grounds - one the size of Optus Stadium, the other the MCG - a 60 metre indoor training hall, gyms, lap pool, hydrotherapy pool, function rooms, café, museum, shop and media rooms.
Previously the home ground of WAFL side Perth Demons, the venue first opened in 1962 and today contains a main grandstand, two undercover areas and a grass hill surrounding the playing arena.
The venue has had three commercial naming rights sponsors. It was known as Eftel Oval from 2003, then Brownes Stadium as of 2011, and, from 1st March this year, Mineral Resources Park.
The soon to open training and administration facilities for the Eagles has reduced the venue's the capacity to around 10,000.
