Naming rights deal will see West Coast Eagles' new training facility branded as Mineral Resources Park

Mining group Mineral Resources has signed a five year naming rights deal with the West Coast Eagles for the reigning AFL Premiers’ training base at Perth's Lathlain Park.

As a result, the new $50 million training facility will be be known as Mineral Resources Park.

With West Coast set to move to its new training facility in either June or July this year, Chairman Russell Gibbs stated "our new home is rapidly taking shape and all going well we will be packing our bags at Subiaco Oval in the coming months and moving across and joining the Perth Football Club and the Wirrpanda Foundation in this precinct in Victoria Park.

“Not only are Mineral Resources an iconic and very progressive WA mining company, they also truly have their heart in the community.”

Mineral Resources Managing Director Chris Ellison said his company was delighted to partner with the West Coast Eagles, commenting "the key aspect of this partnership for us is that Mineral Resources Park will focus on children and families, encourage more girls and women into sport, and enable disadvantaged youth and people with a disability to participate

Advising that said the facilities including the precinct’s two ovals would be available for community use, would become the training base for the Eagles women’s team as well and he hoped the AFLW team would play home games there, Gibbs added "this precinct will provide the opportunity for all ages and all walks of community to engage in sport, participation as well as other activities with the Wirrpanda Foundation, at the Town of Victoria Park and the Perth Football Club,

“Some financial support will go to the Perth Football Club. Chris has made it very clear that it is for community activities.

“It is going to range right through from kids participation in football, young ladies participation in football - I think we are still working out how best we can engage in community. We have a fantastic precinct which is not just ovals but also the surrounds as well.”

Financial details of the deal were not released but The West Australian has today reported that the Perth Football Club alone will receive a boost of around $70,000 per year as part of the deal.
