Wellington’s Westpac Stadium welcome 10 millionth fan

Westpac Stadium welcomed its 10 millionth fan yesterday evening at the Hurricanes v Highlanders Super Rugby match.

The lucky female fan was surprised with the good news as she came through the turnstiles on entry to the game with husband, her father-in-law and two children.

The fan milestone comes after 18 years and three months in operation since the Stadium first opened on 3rd January 2000. It also comes just six days after Westpac Stadium sent its highest ever crowd record with 46,474 fans in attendance for the Eminem concert on 2nd March.

Commenting on the achievement, Westpac Stadium Chief Executive, Shane Harmon stated “this is a significant milestone for the Stadium and a great way to pay tribute to all of the fans who have enjoyed events here over the past 19 years.

“We are grateful for the continued support of the fans, from all our sports and events, and we look forward to creating more experiences and memories for the next 10 million.”

Westpac Stadium has averaged an annual attendance of 528,000. The 10 million fan milestone comes nine months ahead of the Stadium’s 20th birthday which it will celebrate in January next year.
