Water World Ocean Park hosts World’s Largest Swimming Lesson
Water World Ocean Park has made history as the first Hong Kong host for internationally acclaimed water safety event the World's Largest Swimming Lesson (WLSL).
Held on 22nd June, the attraction’s hosting of the event, coincided with the start of Hong Kong’s peak swim season, saw team members lead a special swimming class for close to 300 participants at Water World’s Horizon Cove.
Those involved were instructed in basic swimming techniques along with learning practical water self-rescue skills.
Organised by the World Waterpark Association, the annual event aims to raise awareness about the importance of teaching children to swim and prevent drowning - a public health concern and the third leading cause of unintentional injury death worldwide, according to the World Health Organization’s estimation.
The 14th edition of the WLSL took place in 18 countries on six continents over the course of 24 hours on 22nd June with more than 600 waterparks, aquatic centres and swim schools hosting lessons, providing more than 20,000 hours of water safety training to children and families.
