Warringah Recreation Centre reopens for Futsal, tennis and squash

Recently completed refurbishments at Warringah Council's Warringah Recreation Centre have proved popular since the facility was reopened in October.

The Centre, at North Manly on Sydney's northern beaches, now offers two synthetic futsal courts, three squash and six tennis courts. The six tennis surfaces include Plexicushion, clay and synthetic grass along with dedicated 'Hot Shots' court.

The improvements have been made since the Council took over running the complex from previous lessee Bob Giltinan.

Giltinan, the Warringah Deputy Mayor and former Australian Davis Cup player, had run his Australian Tennis Academy at the facility for 18 years. He took legal action against the Council when it ended his lease in April last year which was subsequently resolved after mediation.

Sydney Tennis Group is the new provider of coaching for the sport, providing Tennis Australia's Hot Shots tennis as part of its program while the Northern Beaches Futsal Association is using the new courts for its burgeoning competitions.

Giltinan has reopened his Australian Tennis Academy at new location in nearby Terrey Hills.
