Warner Bros. Discovery to develop Harry Potter Studio Tour in Shanghai
Shanghai is to become the first location in mainland China with a Harry Potter Studio Tour - with Warner Bros. Discovery and Jinjiang International combing to open the experience in the metropolis in 2027.
While Beijing is already home to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios, this new studio tour - to be located in the Jinjiang Action Park, a Shanghai amusement park currently undergoing renovations - will provide a unique behind-the-scenes experience.
Much like the well-received tours in London and Tokyo, the Shanghai attraction will immerse visitors in the filmmaking magic that brought the beloved Harry Potter series to life with guests able to interact with props from the fantasy books and movies.
Announcing the new experience on social media, Jinjiang advised “the Harry Potter Studio Tour will take visitors on a fascinating behind-the-scenes tour, allowing them to gain a deep understanding of the magical world of Harry Potter.”
Based on the existing Harry Potter Studio Tour, the experiencer will include some of the most famous set pieces from the Harry Potter films, including Diagon Alley, Platform Nine and Three Quarters, Privet Drive, the Hogwarts Express and the Ministry of Magic, as well as opportunities to sample butterbeer, chocolate frogs and Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans.
The project is expected to cover an area of about 53,000 square meters, including a soundstage and a backlot.
Jinjiang Action Park, rides and attractions have previously focused on Chinese characters, closed to the public on 26th January, with operators saying it could “no longer meet the new needs of tourists.”
Jinjiang advised that when it reopens in 2027 the Harry Potter experience will be its centrepiece.
