Merlin Entertainments announces mid 2025 opening for LEGOLAND Shanghai Resort

Appearing at this week’s China International Import Expo (CIIE), Merlin Entertainments has revealed that the new LEGOLAND Shanghai Resort will open during the next Northern Hemisphere summer.

Demonstrating the park’s holistic experience through a full resort concept video at its booth, Merlin showcased the key features of the 11th LEGOLAND globally and very first in China.

LEGOLAND Shanghai Resort also launched its membership program, inviting the public to sign up for tickets and products launches along with exclusive previews of construction progress.

John Jakobsen, Chief Operating Officer at LEGOLAND® Resorts, stated "LEGOLAND Shanghai Resort shares a strong connection with the CIIE, and we’re delighted to have been part of the pivotal platform for China’s opening-up for the last three years.

“China represents a key pillar of the Merlin Entertainments’ global growth strategy, and LEGOLAND Shanghai Resort marks a crucial advancement in our strategic expansion plans for Chinese market.

“As construction of LEGOLAND Shanghai Resort advances positively, (we have) unveiled the concept video showcasing the entire resort for the first time, launched a membership recruitment program, marking a new milestone.”

The winners of the recent LEGOLAND Shanghai Kids Reporters program made their debut at the CIIE.

Specifically designed for families with children aged two to 12years, LEGOLAND Shanghai Resort will feature a LEGO themed hotel and eight LEGO themed lands with over 75 interactive rides, shows and attractions.

The attraction is located in Fengjing Town, Jinshan District in the Yangtze River Delta region.

Explaining the importance of the development, Li Zelong, Deputy Party Secretary of the CPC Jinshan District Committee, Director of the District Government, explained “in recent years, Jinshan District has leveraged LEGOLAND Shanghai Resort as a great opportunity to promote the transformation of Jinshan District. Looking ahead, we will continue to support the development and construction of LEGOLAND Shanghai Resort, promoting the development of catering, accommodation, transportation and other service industries in surrounding areas and further elevating the regional tourism brand image.”
