WA backs shared equipment for regional sports clubs

The Western Australian Department of Sport and Recreation is to launch a shared equipment scheme for regional sports clubs, backed by clubs being able to apply for a set one-off amount of $500 for shared team or club equipment.

Set to start in October, the Shared Equipment Scheme will be advertised at three pre-set times of each calendar year, for the next four years. Information on eligibility and how to apply will be available through regional sporting networks and DSR regional offices closer to the Scheme commencing as of late October.

The Western Australian Government has committed $1 million over four years to the Scheme, through its Royalties for Regions funding.

Western Australian Sport and Recreation Minister Terry Waldron has also announced the allocation of $2million over the next four years to support talented athletes through a Junior Representative Travel Assistance Program.

Minister Waldron explained "the State Government is aware of the difficulties facing many families and individuals with cost of living expenses and is committed to providing better-targeted support to those who need it."

Minister Waldron said the Travel Assistance Program would be phased in to complement existing programs that supported the development of regional athletes.
