BASSINTHEGRASS and Parrtjima festivals secure accolades at the 2022 Australian Event Awards

The Northern Territory’s events industry continues to excel with two major Territory events taking out three accolades at the 2022 Australian Event Awards.

BASSINTHEGRASS Music Festival was named Best Cultural, Arts or Music Event, and Parrtjima – A Festival in Light took out the Best Achievement in Marketing or Communication and Best Community Event awards. Both are delivered by Northern Territory Major Events Company (NTMEC). Alice Springs Beanie Festival, supported by NTMEC, was a runner-up in the Community Event category.

Held in Sydney on Wednesday, 23rd November, the Australian Event Awards recognise outstanding achievements in the nation’s events industry.

The Territory events industry has also received global recognition, after NTMEC made number nine in the international Eventex Index: The Top 100 Event Organisers and Agencies for 2022. NTMEC was the only Australian company to make the Top 10, and one of only three to make the Top 100. The list recognises excellence in the international events industry over the last three years. Earlier this year NTMEC events took out seven awards at the Eventex Awards. Parrtjima – A Festival in Light received six awards, and BASSINTHEGRASS Music Festival received one.

BASSINTHEGRASS also received a ‘Highly Commended’ in the ‘Excellence in Supporting Inclusion and Participation’ category at this year’s Northern Territory Disability Services Awards. NTMEC is proud to work with Carpentaria, a not-for-profit organisation providing disability and therapy services, across its portfolio of events to improve the experience for people with a disability.

Major events such as Parrtjima and BASSINTHEGRASS play an important role in boosting the Territory from a social and economic viewpoint. Independent research found BASSINTHEGRASS 2022 generated a total expenditure stimulus of $15.8 million – 70% ($11.1 million) of which was new money to the Territory. This year’s Parrtjima was responsible for generating a total expenditure stimulus of $14.7 million – 81% of which was new money to the region.

NTMEC Head of Events and Operations Coryn Huddy notes “It’s fantastic to see Territory events receiving well-deserved national and international recognition. We are very fortunate to live and work in such an incredible place, with an exciting events calendar that reflects our vibrant and culturally-rich community.

“Parrtjima and BASSINTHEGRASS attract huge numbers of visitors who get to experience all the Red Centre and Top End have to offer. Aside from boosting visitation and strengthening the local economy, these events also help showcase our excellent tourism experiences, endless summer and the Northern Territory as a must-do visitor destination for people of all ages.”

Australian Event Awards 2022 Judges commented on BASSINTHEGRASS “congratulations on delivering such a unique experience in this stunning Top End beach-sunset location. You are to be commended on the focus on accessibility, health and safety, and overcoming challenging location logistics. The growth and events tourism numbers are impressive, and bound to continue to grow with the solid marketing and tourism partnerships.”

Australian Event Awards 2022 Judges also commented on Parrtjima noting “Engagement with local Aboriginal community in development and execution is excellent. What a wonderful event that has generated so much goodwill and financial benefits for the local economy. Your attendee satisfaction results show just how much your efforts were appreciated. Congratulations!”
