VMA unveils new look annual venue professionals awards

The Venue Management Association (Asia and Pacific) Limited [VMA] has unveiled a new look for its industry professional awards, adopting a fresh approach to its Venue Professional of the Year Award while introducing a new professional recognition category, the Young Achiever of the Year Award.

Explaining the change, VMA Membership & Marketing Committee Chair Judy Vince states “the VMA introduced the prestigious Venue Professional of the Year Award in 2010, with 12 recipients officially recognised over the past six years.

The Venue Professional of the Year Award was previously separated into two categories over the past six years, for both an Active Member and an Allied Member.

However, commencing in 2016, the Venue Professional of the Year Award will be awarded to only one nominee irrespective of whether they are an Active or Allied VMA Member.

The main change to the revised selection criteria is the recognition of activities over the candidate’s career as opposed to those activities undertaken for the preceding year only.

The new category of the Young Achiever of the Year Award will recognise venue industry professionals who are under 30 years of age as at 1st May of the year the award is presented.

As Vince adds “the VMA Board is passionate about recognising and promoting up-and-coming members of the Association.”

The Young Achiever of the Year Award will also be awarded to only one nominee irrespective of whether they are an Active or Allied VMA Member.

Earlier this year, the 2015 Venue Professional of the Year awards were presented to Brian Morris (Active member) and Lindsay Adams (Allied member).
