VMA Restructures

The Venue Management Association (Asia Pacific) [VMA]has agreed to significant changes in its governance including a strategic review of the associationâs key membership programs and benefits.

The VMA's twelve member Council (Board of Directors), headed by President Steve Romer of the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, has created three overarching committees to provide overall strategic direction for all key VMA program areas.

A Chairman of each group has been elected to report to the full Council at each meeting on objectives and progress. Each group is equally represented with four members from Council and the Executive Officer, John Benett.

The three key areas of committee governance identified by the Council are Membership, Relationships and Education.

Speaking on the significant change this will bring to direct benefits for members, President Steve Romer explained "Council identified that our wide and diverse membership programs would benefit from a re-focus on needs and gap analysis so that our members can receive improved benefits from the new range of programs on offer from the VMA's affiliation with IAAM. As Council has the overriding committee governance responsibility, it was agreed that all Councillors would have committee-specific representation in the new strategic direction."

The VMA's affiliation with IAAM, established in July 2007, gives automatic membership for each VMA member to IAAM and direct access to all of the programs on offer, at VMA member's rates.

Some of the programs that are on offer to all VMA members include, PVMS; Annual Congress; CFE recognition; SIRIUS recognition; After Five Networking; Communication and News Alerts; Mentoring Program; Core Tracks online training; Venue Exchange program; Facility Manager Magazine; Australasian Leisure Management magazine and Position Available Advertising.
