VMA Introduces Venue Industry Awards

For the first time Venue Management Association (VMA) members can nominate their peers for a series of personal achievement awards and recognition programs.

The Venue Industry Professional awards have been introduced to allow VMA members to nominate those whom they feel have made outstanding contributions to the venue industry.

The awards will be presented to Active and Allied VMA members during the upcoming 2010 Congress & Showcase from 16th to 18th May.

Judging of the final two recipients, will be conducted by the Awards Committee and the full VMA Council.

As outgoing VMA Executive Officer John Benett suggested "it's time to recognise those quiet, and not so quiet!, achievers who are ever present in our industry and (who) can stand as role models for our many younger professionals entering the industry."

Any financial member of the VMA can nominate a candidate for an award and any financial member of the VMA can be nominated for an award.

The selection criteria is for nominees being at venues at which the nominee operates and is based on their contribution:

• To the Venue Management Association;
• To the community in which the nominee operates;
• In support and development, study, research and publishing of papers/article of relevance to the venue management industry; or
• Particular significant contributions and achievements made by the nominee.

In the case of Allied member nominees, all of the above criteria apply plus how the nominee has, through their work in the venue industry and relationships with specific venues, improved their business and services.

This week has also seen John Glenn, the VMA's newly appointed General Manager, take up his new position while John Benett will remain with the Association until 30th June.

Glenn, and the VMA's executive, can be contacted on 07 3870 4777, E: john.glenn@vma.org.au
