VMA Appoints New General Manager
John Glenn, General Manager of the State Theatre - Sydney, will commence as the General Manager of the Venue Management Association [Asia and Pacific] (VMA) on Monday 3rd May 2010.
As VMA President, Steve Romer explains, "further to my announcement late last year that John Benett will be leaving the VMA on 30th June 2010, Iâm pleased to advise that we have found a very capable and strong leader for the new General Manager of the VMA.
"As such, I'm pleased to announce the new General Manager of the VMA will be John Glenn, the current General Manager of the State Theatre in Sydney.
"Although John has only been in the venue management industry for the past two years, he's had a very diverse career which has seen him work in public, private and not-for-profit organisations where he has gained significant senior management experience in venue, arts, financial and project management.
"He has experience in venue management, international and national touring, event management, financial management, database management, membership management, board representation and company secretarial exposure. Prior to joining the State Theatre as General Manager in March 2008, John had a variety of very diverse senior management roles with organisations including the Sydney Symphony, CREATE Foundation, Matrix on Board, A Just Australia, Young Endeavour Youth Scheme, and the Australian National Maritime Museum. John began his career as a professional musician.
"John will commence as the General Manager of the VMA on Monday 3rd May 2010. Commencing in early May will give John the opportunity to appreciate office activities in the lead up to the congress and will allow him to shadow John Benett and the VMA staff before, during and after the congress. The congress will be an ideal time for John to meet the membership, fully appreciate the dynamics of the role and work closely with the team.
"As luck would have it, John's wife (a Queenslander) received a Brisbane-based posting recently, and since that time John has been commuting to Sydney from their new family home in Brisbane. John will be based in the VMA's Brisbane office.
"Once again, I'm delighted John Glenn is joining the VMA and Iâm confident he will bring strong leadership and energy to the role and grow the Association well into the future."
