Visitor plea from Blue Mountains tourism
With the bushfires that have raged across the NSW Blue Mountains finally easing, tourism operators are urging travellers to return and support the region's recovery.
The bushfires have wrought destruction across large areas of the popular tourist region over the past week but now the emergency situation has been downgraded as milder weather sets in. Roads are reopening and most attractions are now returning to full operations.
With Blue Mountains Lithgow & Oberon Tourism having, earlier in the week, advised visitors to stay away from the Blue Mountains region due to bushfires, tourism operators are underlining the role tourism will play in the recovery of the region.
Although the Fairmont Resort in Leura was untouched by the fire damage, the hotel still lost business because of the disruption elsewhere.
General Manager Bernie Boller underlined the support of tourists and conference groups as critical to the regions recovery and encouraged them to maintain their travel plans over the coming months, stating "the reality is that if you look out from the Fairmont today you wouldnt know anything had happened theres clear blue sky, untouched bush as far as the eye can see, and a fully staffed hotel waiting to provide that warm, genuine Blue Mountains hospitality.
"If people are wondering how they can support the Blue Mountains the answer is quite simple - come up and enjoy yourselves up here. It's a win-win for everyone."
The Wolgan Valley Resort and Spa was keen to get the message out that it had also been unaffected by the fires.
Scenic World Blue Mountains reopened yesterday (Friday 25th October) and is accepting donations to the Rural Fire Service at its Ticket Desk with every dollar donated to be matched by an equivalent amount from Scenic World.
The Zig Zag Railway was severley damaged by the bushfires at the end of last week, with damage to the transport attraction still being assessed.
All NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service and Blue Mountains City Council parks, reserves, lookouts and camping grounds remain closed.
