Visitation encouraged to Darwin Waterfront Precinct

The Darwin Waterfront Corporation is encouraging locals and visitors to continue to visit the Darwin Waterfront Precinct’s restaurants and shops, despite the global health pandemic associated with the  Coronavirus (COVID-19).

At statement released today by the Darwin Waterfront Corporation (DWC) advises that to support visitors and retailers, all on-street car parking at the Waterfront will be free of charge until further notice from Friday 13th March 2020.

Explaining the move, DWC General Manager, Sam Burke commented “despite global concern about the Coronavirus, the Waterfront remains one of the safest and best places to visit, enjoy a meal and stay.

“We are acutely aware of the potential impact on retail trade and the importance to continue to encourage locals and visitors to come down to the Waterfront - that is why we are pleased to incentivise visitation through free on-street parking.

“Visitors are encouraged to spend their money at the Waterfront to support our local restaurants, cafes, shops and hotel. At this difficult time, Territorians need to come together and buy local.”

The Waterfront has extensive cleaning and public health systems which have been enhanced in light of the Coronavirus pandemic declaration.

“All public contact surfaces are now cleaned daily by our dedicated contractors using hospital grade anti-bacterial disinfectants including railings, public seating, lifts and the children’s playground.”

Burke went on to assure visitors that they “can be assured of best practice cleaning and risk mitigation at the Waterfront every day, all year.”

The Corporation will also be deploying additional public hand sanitiser units throughout the Waterfront.

Members of the public feeling unwell are encouraged to avoid the Waterfront and follow the advice of health authorities.

All public events planned for the Waterfront will continue unless health authorities direct otherwise over the coming months.
