City of Darwin set to increase number of events in 2020
Following a strong focus on revitalising Darwin in 2019, with significant investments in tree planting, landscaping and lighting, the City of Darwin is predicting a large number of events in 2020.
Data shows that in 2019 an impressive 655 individual events and activities were held across City of Darwin’s 233 bookable venues.
Acting Lord Mayor George Lambrinidis advises “2019 was a huge year for us. I am staggered at the number of events held at City of Darwin venues, and congratulate staff on the amount of work they have done to book, manage and facilitate events and maintain and upgrade our indoor and outdoor venues.”
City of Darwin has 233 venues across Darwin, that can accommodate events for community groups, individuals and corporate entities, from 10 to more than 1,000 people, including weddings, conferences, markets and festivals.
The City of Darwin events team also manages and facilitates signature events including the Bombing of Darwin Commemoration, Australia Day Flag Raising and Citizenship Ceremony and the month-long Christmas Promotions, with the Library and LAUNCH youth events team and Council’s Youth Advisory Committee also managing a plethora of events from Couch Surfing and Games Night to Skate Nights, Night Basketball and Storytime.
Acting Lord Mayor Lambrinidis added “we invested significantly in many venues in 2019 through landscaping and lighting upgrades and we anticipate this investment paying dividends in 2020, with even more events and activities planned for 2020.
“We take our role of maintaining venues very seriously and our parks team take enormous pride in ensuring all outdoor venues look the very best they can year round.”
“Events create vibrancy and bring visitors to our city, injecting valuable dollars into the community, making them incredibly valuable economically, socially and culturally.
“City of Darwin recognises how valuable these events are and will continue to invest in this area, to ensure our venues, systems and staff meet expectations.”
