Amusements and attractions exhibitions in Dubai and Taiwan impacted by Coronavirus
Changes have been announced to major amusement and attractions industry exhibitions in Asia with the GTI Asia Taipei Expo, scheduled to have been held from 16th to 18th April, cancelled, and the Dubai Entertainment and Leisure Show (DEAL), which was to have been held from 23rd to 25th March, now moved to 15th to 17th June.
Amid fears over the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), the organisers of the GTI Asia Taipei Expo released a statement advising “a decision has been carefully considered by the GTI committee, as we view our Exhibitors and Visitors' health and safety as our prime concern.
“(As a result), we have cancelled the GTI Asia Taipei this year. Moreover, we hope this could help to prevent the virus from spreading.”
GTI Asia China Expo 2020, scheduled in September is unaffected by the change and will take place in Guangzhou from 9th to 11th September this year.
The updated GTI Asia Taipei Expo will return in 2021, being held from 22nd to 24th April next year.
Commenting further on the cancellation of April’s event, the GTI statement added “so many overseas buyers have trouble in cross-border procurement and many international exhibitions have also been postponed due to the epidemic, generating the phenomenon that lots of similar exhibitions will be held in the second half of the year.
“To guarantee the benefits of both exhibitors and buyers as well as protecting their safety, Taiwan Amusement Machine Association (TAMA), Taiwan Digital Entertainment Association (TDEA) and GTI/Haw Ji Co., Ltd. … decided to cancel the GTI Asia Taipei Expo 2020 (following) mutual consultation and cautious assessment.”
DEAL 2020
Announcing the move for the change of date for DEAL 2020, organisers International Expo Consults stated “for the past 26 years, we have taken pride in making the DEAL Middle East show a safe place to conduct business for the regional market (but) in the wake of the global COVID-19 situation, we feel that it wouldn’t be safe for the exhibitors, visitors and the thousands of other stakeholders that would gather at DEAL 2020.”
Attractions, Amusement & Entertainment Development Asia
Conference organiser IQPC has also advised that its second Attractions, Amusement & Entertainment Development Asia conference due to be held at the end of February in Singapore has been postponed "due to the current situation with COVID-19 - Coronavirus outbreak."
The event will now be held on Tuesday 2nd and Wednesday 3rd June.
