Visioning the Outdoors Short Film Competition 2012 finalists announced

The Queensland Outdoor Recreation Federation (QORF) has announced the finalists of the Open category for the inaugural Visioning the Outdoors Short Film Competition.
QORF Chief Executive Donna Little said entries in this first year of the short film competition were encouraging, with filmmakers from South East Queensland, and as far north as Townsville, submitting film creations which focused on a range of outdoor activities such as hiking, climbing, kayaking, and slacklining.
Little explained "the outdoors inspires and enlivens us and the Visioning the Outdoors Short Film Competition was designed to encourage everyday people to get out and explore, share, expand, engage and capture these experiences and encourage others to get involved.
"We are excited by the diversity of stories that were entered in Visioning the Outdoors, from young and old, and across a variety of activities.
"These films have the potential to inspire Queenslanders to action and remind us of the opportunities we have to enjoy the active outdoors lifestyle that Queensland has to offer".
A judging panel, which combined Little, former ABC cameraman Julian Mather ACS, Dr Debra
Beattie of Griffith University and Dr Bruce Redman of the University of Queensland, had the tough task of reviewing nearly 30 entries across the three categories of Open, Youth and SEQ Catchments Mobile Minute.
Finalists'films will be shown at the Visioning the Outdoors Screening and Awards Night at the Schonell Cinema, University of Queensland on Wednesday 29th August, 2012.
Winners from the three categories will be announced on the night, which will also feature commended entries, along with a feature film commissioned by QORF and highlights from the Cairns Adventure Film Festival that took place earlier this year.
Category winners will take home cash and product prizes thanks to the support of SEQ Catchments, Footgear (in association with Ecco and Merrell), and OPSM.
