Village Roadshow submit plans for $333 million hotel and function centre next to Warner Bros. Movie World

Village Roadshow Theme Parks has today revealed plans to add a 600-room hotel and convention centre next to its Warner Bros. Movie World property on the Gold Coast.

Expanding on previously revealed plans for a nine-level hotel, which were approved in 2017, the new $333 million proposal is for a 600 room hotel along with a large function centre.

The proposal for the WB Movie World Hotel incorporates a mix of regular two-bed rooms and a selection of suites as well as a kids clubs, gym, sauna and steam room and two pools.

Set to be almost 80 metres higher than the neighbouring DC Rivals Hypercoaster in Movie World, a feature of the new 22-storey hotel would be a 21st floor ‘panoramic sky deck’, featuring infinity pool, bar and restaurants.

In its submission to the Gold Coast City Council, Village Roadshow planners said the project would create 799 new construction jobs over two years, then 400 ongoing positions in the hotel in the first five years of operation.

The plan anticipated that 876,000 customers will spend $840 million at the property in its first five years, including 130,000 people at its functions centre.

The project would take up around 5 hectares at the north western end of Village Roadshow’s 141.6 hectare Oxenford precinct, with the hotel to be located to the right of the entrance to Movie World.

The hotel would also allow easy access to nearby Wet‘n’Wild Gold Coast, TopGolf, Outback Spectacular, Paradise Country and its Village Roadshow Studios.

The hotel, if approved, would be the Gold Coast’s second theme park hotel, along with Village’s SeaWorld Resort.

The new plans come after Ardent Leisure abandoned its plan for a hotel and tourist park at Dreamworld after a breakdown in negotiations with the developer.
