Victorian Government to waive fees for fitness training on Crown land

The Victorian Government has announced that it will waive current fees for all outdoor fitness trainers and establish an alternative fee system for trainers who want to operate on Crown land in Victoria.

Following a review by the Victorian Government, Victorian Minister for Environment and Climate Change Ryan Smith advised Fitness Australia on 15th January of the Government's decision to consider an alternative licensing system to deal with fitness trainers.

Welcoming the announcement, Fitness Australia Chief Executive Lauretta Stace stated "Fitness Australia is thrilled with the Minister's decision and will continue to work with the Government to ensure that any proposed alternative system provides an equitable pricing structure that promotes the health and wellbeing of all Victorians."

For the past year, Fitness Australia has been advocating for changes to the way outdoor fitness trainers are charged under the Crown Land Reserves (Tour Operator Licence Fee) Regulations 2011.

During the transition period in which the new licensing system is being developed, the Victorian Government will issue a waiver for any outstanding use fees for 2012/13 and 2013/14 for trainers currently licensed under the system.

However, trainers will still be required to be licensed and pay the fixed annual fee under the system.

Fitness Australia will continue to work closely with its members and the Victorian Government to ensure that any alternative system is equitable and promotes the health and wellbeing of all Victorians.
